  • What kind of food does this animal eat? Can I feed it the proper food at the right times?
  • What kind of environment does this animal need? Can I provide the right environment and the amount of space that this animal needs?
  • Am I able to provide any other care that this animal needs, e.g. grooming, exercising?
  • How well will this animal fit in with the rest of the family? Will it pose a danger to members of the family or to other pets?
  • How safe will this pet be? Is it likely to be attacked by existing family pets or surrounding animals?
  • What are the legal requirements for owning this pet? Will I need to register? Am I legally allowed to own it?
  • How much time will this animal need? What time will be needed to look after it properly? Do I have enough time?
  • What are the costs of caring for this animal? How much will it cost to buy the animal, feed the animal and provide the proper environment?
  • Am I able to get assistance if something goes wrong? Will the seller help me if needed? Does my vet treat these types of animals?
  • How happy will this animal be living with me? Am I putting an animal in a type of environment that goes against its nature? Is it morally right to keep this type of animal as a pet?
It is extremely important to ask yourself these questions if you are considering unusual exotic pets, but it is important even if you are buying what might be a common exotic pet.
