In this article on dog breed information, we will discuss, in general,
different breeds like pure bred dogs, mixed dog breeds, some popular
breeds like Chihuahua puppies & German Shepherd and finally a
brief on choosing a dog breed.
A dog breed is a specific group of dogs man has designed, over
thousands of years, for serving various purposes such as hunting,
guarding and herding according to his needs. The American Kennel
Club has recognized 147 breeds to be assigned to one of the seven
groups. The seven groups are:
- Herding Group
- Working Group
- Sporting Group
- Non-Sporting Group
- Hound Group
- Terrier Group
- Toy Group
Some people group the rest of the dogs that do not fall into any
of these categories into miscellaneous group.
Popular Breeds of Dogs
The list of dog breeds for popular ones can be had from a dog dealer
or from the kennels organizations in your local area. However, the
popularity speaks for itself leaving no necessity for you to run around.
Here is a small list dog breed for some popular breeds.
1. Labrador Retrievers – Very friendly breed. They multiply
as hunting, sporting and working group
2. The Golden Retriever – A big dog & has a big appetite.
Not hostile and are known as hunters.
3. German shepherd – Very intelligent so used as guide dogs,
police dogs, Very faithful and obedient
4. Dachshund – Pretty looking, small and fiercely loyal to
one person, Ideal companion for a single person
5. Beagle puppies – Beagle Puppies are a kind of foxhound,
a great hunter and tracker. They never be allowed out of a leash.
6. Poodles – Small, barky and active, Can be groomed as you
like, Friendly, intelligent and loving. Very popular family dogs
7. Chihuahua puppies – Perfect apartment dogs, Afraid of
open spaces (agoraphobia) A religious symbol for Aztecs
8. Rottweilers – Literally means rotten and reprehensible
both physically as well as morally. Strong, powerful, and ferocious
and are advised only for police. Not biting cannot be guaranteed.
9. Yorkshire terrier – Darlings of old women when groomed.
Otherwise, look like large sewer rats. Small in size but make a
great companion.
10. Boxers – Belongs to mixed dog breeds between Great Dane,
Bulldog and others. Developed as a guard and working group. Looks
like it is very alert with ears stuck forward.
So many other breeds vie for making to this list. Thus the left
breeds out cannot be construed as not good ones in this dog breed
information.
How Do You Select The Right Dog Breed?
Selecting the right dog breed is not easy even if it is your second
one. The basic considerations are their characteristics, what do you
want a dog for, whether they meet your requirements and the price
etc. A quick study of the dog groups should help you begin your quest,
as group names are indicative. For example, you need a dog for herding
cattle; you can immediately focus on breeds within this group. American
Kennels club (AKC) has listed 18 dogs under this group, which you
can choose from the lot. On the other hand, you can search by how
they are bred. Mixed dog breeds, purebred dogs (examples: Cockapoo,
bull terrier, bulldog etc) suit multiple purposes. AKC provides a
good set of guidelines to select the right dog breed for your need.
