There is an entire industry built around pet grooming in the U.S There were nearly 28,000 pet grooming businesses and other ancillary grooming businesses in the U.S. as of 2003 and it is estimated that the demand for pet groomers will increase 12 percent by 2010. So as you can see business is doing well.
However not all pet owners are rejoicing. There is still a large lack of trained pet groomers as they are over 4,000 dogs and cats for every grooming business in the U.S. So the career opportunities in this industry are limitless.
How should pets be groomed? What are some of the best techniques to use? Consider
Bathing and Drying: This is the basic in grooming. There are professional groomers and pet bathers who will do the job for a fee. Remember in the case of pets bathing means more than just washing and drying a pet. Other procedures are also grouped into the bathing process and are done by professionals who will groom a dog from start to finish
Brushing and Combing: This is vital. There is nothing like a good hard brush to get that furry coat shining and looking great. Moreover if you brush regularly you can get rid of fleas and ticks that will otherwise lodge in your pet's coat and cause trouble. There are special brushes available specific to your pets hair type that will make the brushing easier.
Nail cutting: Cut your pets nails regularly. If you don't your pet dog or cat will not be able to place its full weight on its feet resulting in body ache and joint discomfort.
Ear cleaning: Your pet's ears should also be cleaned regularly to prevent accumulation of dirt or wax that will cause ear ache.
Flea and tick control: Not many owners realize that pests can cause problems like tape worms and bacterial infections for the pets. Keep surrounding areas clean and use the services of a professional groomer to rid your pet of all parasites.
